ZAP (ZED Assessor Program) – Eligibility FAQ

Educational Qualification 

Q1: Is a Technical Degree/Diploma mandatory for becoming a ZED Assessor?

Answer: Yes. The applicant must possess a Technical Degree or Diploma in Engineering from a recognized Institute/University.

Q2: Can a non-technical graduate apply?

Answer: No. Only candidates having a Technical Degree or Diploma in Engineering are eligible.

Q3: Is the final degree certificate mandatory?

Answer: Yes. The final Degree/Diploma certificate is mandatory for eligibility verification.

Q4: What if the final degree certificate has not yet been issued?

Answer: Applicants may submit the final semester/year result or mark sheet issued by the University/Institute, clearly indicating successful completion. 

Q5: Will provisional results be accepted?

Answer: Yes, provided they clearly establish successful completion and confirm that the final certificate is pending. 

Important Note on Educational Eligibility

  • A Technical Degree/Diploma in Engineering is mandatory.  
  • A final certificate or valid proof of completion is required.  
  • Applicants must meet the experience, audit, and expertise requirements as per the guidelines.  
  • Non-technical qualifications are not eligible.  

Work Experience 

Q6: What is the minimum work experience requirement?

Answer: Graduate Engineers require at least 5 years of manufacturing experience, while Diploma Engineers require at least 8 years. A minimum of 3 years must be in operations, quality, management, auditing, assessment, or consulting.

Q7: Will internship or trainee experience be counted?

Answer: No. Internship, trainee, apprentice, GET, or student training experience is not considered.

Q8: Which experience is considered valid?

Answer: Only regular on-roll employment after obtaining the required qualification is considered. 

Q9:  From when is experience counted?

Answer: Experience is counted from the date of joining a regular role after obtaining the required qualification. 

Important Note on Work Experience Eligibility 

  • Only post-qualification experience is considered valid.  
  • Internship, trainee, apprentice, GET, or student training experience is excluded.  
  • Applicants must meet the minimum years of experience criteria.  
  • At least 3 years of experience must be in relevant functional roles.  

Audit Log Requirements 

Q10:  What audit experience is required?

Answer: A minimum of 25 man-days of audits in ISO Management Systems or recognized excellence models (CII-EXIM, EFQM, MBNQA, ISO) 

Q11:  Are observers or trainee audit days accepted?

Answer: No. Only active roles such as Lead Auditor, Auditor, or Assessor are considered. 

Q12:  What audit documents are required?

Answer: Applicants must submit audit log sheets, certificates, assignment letters, or audit reports clearly indicating their role and the duration of each audit.

Important Note on Audit Requirements 

  • A minimum of 25 audit man-days is mandatory.
  • Observer or trainee audit roles are not accepted.  
  • Supporting documents must clearly indicate the applicant’s role and the duration of each audit.    

Additional Qualification

Q13:  Is Lead Auditor certification mandatory?

Answer: Yes. Applicants must hold a Lead Auditor certification in QMS or relevant ISO systems or be a qualified ZED Assessor under the previous scheme. each audit.

Q14:  Which Lead Auditor certifications are acceptable?

Answer: Lead Auditor certifications in the following (or similar) ISO standards are acceptable:

  • ISO 9001 (Quality Management System)  
  • ISO 14001 (Environmental Management System)  
  • ISO 45001/OHSAS (Occupational Health & Safety)  
  • ISO 50001 (Energy management) 

The certification must be issued by a recognized training or certification body. 

Q15:  Is it mandatory that the Lead Auditor certificate is currently valid?

Answer: Preferably, yes. The certification should be valid or supported by evidence of continued professional practice in auditing.

Q16:  Can Internal Auditor certification be considered instead of Lead Auditor certification?

Answer: No. Only Lead Auditor certification is acceptable. Internal Auditor certification alone does not meet the eligibility requirements

Q17:  Will multiple auditor certifications add value to the application?

Answer: Yes. Having certifications in multiple management systems (e.g., QMS, EMS, OHS, Energy management) is considered an advantage and strengthens the applicant’s profile.

Q18:  Is training completion without certification sufficient?

Answer: No. Mere participation in training is not sufficient unless it leads to a recognized Lead Auditor certification. 

Important Note on Additional Qualification 

  • Lead Auditor certification is a mandatory eligibility requirement.  
  • The certification must be issued by a recognized and credible body.  
  • Applicants must be able to provide valid proof of certification.  
  • Additional certifications in multiple management systems are preferred but not mandatory.   

Discipline Expertise Requirement

Q19:   Is discipline expertise required?

Answer: Yes. Applicants must demonstrate expertise across Group A (Business/Manufacturing), Group B (QMS, Safety, Environment), and Group C (Energy, Supply Chain, HR).

Q20:   How is expertise verified?

Answer: Expertise is verified through education, certifications, work experience, audit roles, consulting assignments, and interview evaluation.
